The Australian Children's Music Foundation was established in 2002 by well-known entertainer Don Spencer OAM, to use the power of music to inspire and enrich the lives of all Australian children and youth, particularly the disadvantaged and indigenous.
Funding is often provided to take care of the physical problems facing children and youth - very few charities address the serious emotional and mental issues. Many of the children that the ACMF deal with have suffered physical and emotional abuse and often have witnessed terrible crimes committed against their mother or other family members. Music is food for the imagination and offers them a chance to look at the world in a different way. Through music, children can find a way to express their emotions and channel their energy and abilities into something positive and creative.
The ACMF provides free weekly tuition and free musical equipment to disadvantaged and Indigenous schools and Juvenile Detention Centres throughout Australia. There are only four Detention Centres in Australia where the ACMF does not run a program - this is only due to lack of funding.
All money raised from our online shop goes towards carrying out the programs of the Foundation. We have big plans for 2008/2009 so help us achieve our goals and purchase something from our store.
